Diverse speakers | Plant-based morning tea & lunch | Networking
The Animal Law Committee is excited to announce a one-day conference open to students, lawyers and members of the public alike. The theme for 2019 is how future law reform in Australia could challenge or improve protections for animals and their advocates.
This event will include a series of talks, a delicious morning tea and lunch from social enterprise caterer Parliament on King, barista-made coffee, a panel discussion, and opportunities to network.
Our fantastic line-up of speakers will cover topics such as the regulation of agriculture, the legality of using animals in entertainment, using the consumer law to help animals in test cases, and reflections on running a community legal centre for animals:
– The Hon. Emma Hurst NSW MLC
– Dr Meg Good, Animal Law & Education Manager at Voiceless
– Shatha Hamade, Legal Counsel at Animals Australia
– Dr Jed Goodfellow, Senior Policy Officer at RSPCA Australia
– Amanda Richman, Senior Lawyer at Animal Law Institute
– Tara Ward, Executive Director at Animal Defenders Office.
The Committee would like to thank the generosity of the following organisations who are helping to make this event possible.
– Voiceless: the animal protection institute
– Australian Ethical Super
– Animals Australia
– Animal Liberation.
In keeping with the ethical vision and values of our sponsors and the Committee, all food and drinks served at this event will be free of animal products and we are aiming to minimise waste, such as by strongly encouraging all attendees to bring keep cups.
