Facebook Bookmarklet

What is This?

Use the browser bookmarklet below to copy the details of a Facebook event and auto-populate them in the Submit an Event form for submission to VegEvents.

Not all details will copy over correctly from Facebook. You may need to manually correct the location section, and if you are logged into Facebook the start/end times and timezone may not be auto-populated.

Several fields will be up to you to fill out if you know them: Event Cost, Categories, and Tags.

Install the Bookmarklet

Submit Facebook Event to VegEvents

Last Updated July 19, 2023

Want to save yourself some time? Set your name and email address to update the bookmarklet so that it will auto-populate your Name and Email in the Submit an Event form when used. These fields will not be displayed on published events and they allow us to contact you if there is a problem with your submission.

Usage Instructions

The bookmarklet works best if logged in to Facebook when using it.

  1. Open a desktop or laptop web browser with the VegEvents Facebook Bookmarklet installed. This will not work on a mobile device.
  2. Log in to Facebook if currently logged out.
  3. Navigate to a Facebook Page or Group's events section.
  4. Click the bookmarklet in your browser while viewing the events section on Facebook.
  5. After a few seconds you will see a VegEvents logo next to each event title.
    • The logo will have a green border and a checkmark if it is already listed on VegEvents.
    • The logo will have a red border and an X if the event is not yet listed on VegEvents.
  6. Open each Facebook event that you would like to submit to VegEvents in a new tab or a Private/Incognito browser window. We recommend right-clicking the event's title and selecting the appropriate action.
    • Chrome: Right-click event title -> Select "Open link in incognito window" or press the "g" key on your keyboard.
    • Firefox: Right-click event title -> Select "Open Link in New Private Window" or press the "p" key on your keyboard.
  7. Click the bookmarklet in your browser while viewing a single Facebook event in a new tab or Private/Incognito browser window.
    • A new browser tab will be opened with the event's details populated on the VegEvents Submit an Event form.
  8. Review the auto-populated event details to make any corrections. Areas that may need to be manually corrected:
    • Start and End date - If you were logged into Facebook and not in a Private browser window while viewing the Facebook event's page may have converted the dates to your timezone and will need to be manually modified.
    • Start and End time - If you were logged into Facebook and not in a Private browser window while viewing the Facebook event's page may have converted the times to your timezone and will need to be manually modified.
    • Timezone - It may auto-populate your own timezone instead of the timezone of the event if you were logged into Facebook and not in a Private browser window.
    • Address - You may need to move fields around, enter information that was not on the Facebook event page, or correct the Country dropdown.
    • Event Details - In rare instances this field may be blank. You may manually copy and paste the event description from Facebook into the form in these instances.
    • Cost - This will not be auto-populated, so enter it if you can determine what type of event it is.
    • Select the related Categories for the event.
    • Select the related Tags for the event.
  9. Click the Consent checkbox.
  10. Click the Submit Event button. If there are errors in your submission it will display them at the top.
