Event Description
Event hosted by London Vegan Meetup.

Come and join us for a volunteer work day at the wonderful Friend Farmed Animal Rescue! You can meet the lovely animals and people, and feel good from helping get jobs done with a great team!

People can either drive down themselves or take the train as a group. If joining the train group please bring £5 note and some pound coins for the fare. For a group of 4 or more the ticket is reduced to around £11.30 each. You will meet at London Charing Cross rail station at 9:10am by the ticket office. The train departs at 9:40am from platform 4 and arrives at Paddock Wood at 10:28am. This gives the group plenty of time to get your tickets and get on the train. Please be on time as the group cannot wait and you will be left behind.

Once at Paddock Wood please wait in the car park next to platform 2 where the group will be picked up by car to get to Friend. If anyone is planning to drive and is willing to help with lifts from the station then please comment below.

We usually wrap up the day at around 4pm depending on the time of year and day light available.

The volunteer work days are a great opportunity to interact with the wonderful animals in their care. Most of the animals are very friendly and enjoy the attention from people but we always ask people to be mindful that these animals are not like pets; some of them have been through bad experiences that have affected their health and/or behaviour, and they are very large and strong animals, so always be careful around them and follow the instructions of the Sanctuary staff and event organisers. The Sanctuary and organisers cannot be held responsible for any injuries or damage to property which may occur while on site, by attending this volunteer day you confirm that you agree to this term.

Jobs will include anything from feeding the animals and cleaning their pens and fields, to putting up sheds and fences, weeding and general clearing up. You will need to bring some kind of gardening or work gloves which can be bought from any garden store or even a 99p store.

Wellies are recommended in the summer and essential in the winter, and make sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty as it is extremely muddy. Bringing a change of clothes for the return journey is also advised.

Please make sure to bring some vegan food for the day. Only vegan food to be brought please. Anyone is welcome to come along, but any food containing animal products is not allowed on site. Many people like to bring along a pot luck dish to share around, but please do not rely on others to feed you and bring something for yourself at least. We all get hungry after working hard and there may not be enough to go around! Remember that there are no shops in walking distance of Friend.

Accessibility: The site is wheelchair accessible, but there is a mix of concrete, mud and grassy areas, so some areas are more bumpy. There is also a wheel chair accessible compost toilet.

If you are unable to join us on this date then we repeat this event on the second Saturday of each month. There is also another volunteer day organised by another group which is held on the last Saturday of each month which can be found here:

Any questions please ask :)

We hope to see everyone there!
