Event Description

EVERYBODY WELCOME!!:)

Unsure how to make a real difference for animals? Come and get stuck in at a work party with The Humane League! Not only will you meet a great group of volunteers and activists, plus get to snack on some vegan food and drink, but you’ll also contribute to some of the most effective campaigns to reduce animal suffering!

Although it is on a student campus, you DO NOT have to be student to attend.

What the event will involve:
1) You will meet and be introduced to a group of other volunteers and activists who are all keen to do their bit to reduce animal suffering.
2) You will be introduced to the work of The Humane League and some of the basic ideas of Effective Altruism.
3) You will get cracking on some actions to support The Humane League’s corporate campaigns. Actions include writing letters and feedback forms, making phone calls, signing petitions and completing social media or email actions. These will all be directed at companies to encourage them to commit to making pledges to stop using, producing or selling eggs from caged hens.
4) The 3 speedy activists who complete the most actions will receive a prize for their efforts!

Please try to bring internet-enabled devices (laptop, tablet, smart phone, etc), as some of the actions will involve the use of the internet. If you can’t bring one, there will still be plenty to do.

Since it began its work in the UK in 2016, The Humane League has already convinced over 50 companies to make commitments to improve animal welfare!

Lewis Bollard (Open Philanthropy Project) estimates that over the corporate campaigns that OPP supports, including The Humane League’s, 150 hens moved from a cage to a cage-free environment for a year, per dollar spent.

By attending this event you agree to adhere to The Humane League's Safe Space Policy. The policy link and more information on this can be found here: https://thehumaneleague.org/safe-spaces/. Thank you for creating an uplifting and supportive space for all activists in our community!
