Event Description

Join ARFF on Respect for Fish Day & speak for betta fish at Petco.

WHEN: August 1st, starting at 11:00 AM
WHERE: Petco at Lee Road at Hwy 17-92
*Activists will gather along Hwy 17-92 at the main entrance by CVS*

Important- There is plenty of room to social distance and everyone is asked to wear a mask. Hand san will be available.

WHY:
Betta fish are vibrant, colorful, complex individuals, but Petco sees them as nothing more than a way to make money. Those sold at Petco stores across the country are confined to tiny plastic cups stacked on top of one another on store shelves, forced to exist in just a couple of inches of water. Numerous customers have complained after finding dead, sick, and injured bettas at the chain’s stores—only to be met with indifference from store employees.

August 1 will be the first time Respect for Fish Day is celebrated in an effort to bring awareness to the plight of the trillions of fish exploited each year by the food, pet, sports, and science industries. Fish are excluded from many protective laws such as the Animal Welfare Act, the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act.
