Event Description
Event hosted by Denver Vegans.

For our July 24 meeting we'll discuss TRUE WEALTH: How and Why Millions of Americans Are Creating a Time-Rich, Ecologically Light, Small-Scale, High-Satisfaction Economy, by Juliet B. Schor (Penguin Random House, 2011). This was first published in hardcover under the title PLENITUDE: The Economics of True Wealth.
You need not have attended a previous discussion to join us for this one. Homemade dessert will be served. We hope to see you there!

If you'd like to read ahead, on Aug. 28 we'll discuss An Unnatural Order: Why We Are Destroying the Planet and Each Other, by Jim Mason.
-----------------------
A groundbreaking statement about ecological decline, suggesting a radical change in how we think about consumer goods, value, and ways to live. In TRUE WEALTH, economist Juliet B. Schor rejects the sacrifice message, with the insight that social innovations and new technology can simultaneously enhance our lives and protect the planet. Schor shares examples of urban farmers, DIY renovators, and others working outside the conventional market to illuminate the path away from the work-and-spend cycle and toward a new world rich in time, creativity, information, and community.

Juliet B. Schor’s research has focused on the economics of work, spending, environment, and the consumer culture. She is the author of Born to Buy, The Overworked American, and The Overspent American. Schor is a professor of sociology at Boston College, a former member of the Harvard economics department, and a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient. She is also a cofounder of the Center for a New American Dream, an organization devoted to ecologically and socially sustainable lifestyles.
