Event Description
Event hosted by Compassion Over Killing.

A breaking Compassion Over Killing investigation exposed horrific abuse in the first-ever undercover look into a US salmon farm. This Cooke Aquaculture hatchery raises Atlantic salmon to be sold under the True North brand—which has recently teamed up with homemaking icon Martha Stewart for her new seafood line. Join us in speaking up against Cooke’s cruelty near its Suffolk, Virginia plant!

COK’s footage, viewable at COK.net/FishFarm, exposes workers throwing improperly anesthetized fish across great distances and into waterless buckets, where they were left to either be crushed by others or suffocate to death, as well as stomping on fish's heads and slamming them against the ground. Fish were confined to filthy conditions and covered in fungus, and sometimes they bit at the pupils of other fish in a desperate search for food.

As the world’s major wild fish populations have been cut in half since 1970, commercial fishing is clearly unsustainable for our future. Yet this footage reveals just why factory farming fish is not the solution.

Please join us in a peaceful demonstration against these horrors, and don’t forget to sign our petition urging Martha Stewart to make waves for sea animals by replacing her True North salmon partnership with an investment in vegan seafood: COK.net/marthastewart!

Posters and leaflets will be provided. Please meet at the intersection of Nansemond Pkwy and Northgate Commerce Pkwy, just down the street from Cooke’s Suffolk plant—which has been reported to be producing the new Martha Stewart line.

Call Laura Cascada with any questions at 804-347-5058, or email us at [email protected]. Thank you for your compassion!
