Registered dietitian Virginia Messina writes about plant-based diet for both consumers and health professionals, and serves on the advisory boards of One Step for Animals, Vegetarian Resource Group, and True Health Initiative. She has published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, co-authored a textbook on vegetarian nutrition, and twice co-authored the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics position paper on Vegetarian Diets.
On her website, theveganrd.com, Ms. Messina says: “I devote my career to giving people the tools and knowledge they need to adopt a healthy vegan diet and to ensure that they will stay healthy and happy for the long term.” She also contributes to and helps maintain the website Vegan Health which she calls “the most comprehensive, evidence-based source of vegan information on the internet.” Ms. Messina has co-authored a number of books on vegan nutrition and vegan ethics, including Vegan for Life, Vegan for Her, Never Too Late to Go Vegan, Even Vegans Die, and Protest Kitchen. Most recently she co-authored, with Jack Norris, RD, the second edition of Vegan for Life: Everything You Need to Know to Be Healthy on a Plant-based Diet (2020).
