Event Description

There is a reason why consumers worldwide can do factory tours in about every industry—from candies to furniture—, but aren't allowed to visit slaughterhouses.

Guest speaker Tom, a recent member of our group, has proposed to talk about what he has witnessed during the couple of months he was working at a Swiss slaughterhouse.

Disclaimer: his stint was more than two decades ago, so some of the most unacceptable practices have meanwhile been abolished. However, many other standardized processes haven't changed a bit. Tom will explain that as a matter of fact, the conditions for the animals have in many ways become worse due to the slaughterhouses’ quest to get more work done in less time and become more profitable.

Tom became vegan not too long ago in 2017 and is now a passionate, outspoken animal activist with his own social media channels (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDk5uIILv6wbEQzA7Tyc-8A).

Even though at first sight this event's topic might sound saddening, Tom's message is one of self-empowerment and hope for a brighter future: stay informed to educate others on what the Swiss Animal Welfare Act really means for animals. If you want animal suffering to end, only buy things that fully align with your beliefs; because every single time you go out and purchase something, you vote with your wallet. This is how each of us can bring change.

We are looking forward to another inspiring evening with you!
